I got my free key through my InMotion Hosting account.

I initially installed my site to the base directory and the key worked just fine then. However, I decided to move my site into a subdomain (started at example.net and moved to new.example.net) and now I cannot access any of the content provided by the Connect key. I’ve tried disabling Inspirations in my original site dashboard and replacing the key in my Boldgrid account, but the new key still doesn’t work for the new site. It DOES seem to continue working for the original site if I enter the new key there again.

In the new site in the subdomain, if I select the Inspirations plugin at the top (just beneath the Dashboard link) it takes me to the Boldgrid Inspirations page, with the big red button labeled “Let’s get started!”. I click this and get the next page warning that changing the theme will delete any existing pages, which is something I do want to do, so I select the confirmation checkbox and then click “I Understand – Continue”.

The next page has “Choose a theme to start your design. A theme sets the basics of layout, type and colors but you can customize each once you start designing” at the top but on the left side of the page, at the very top is an error notice: “There was an error fetching categories. Please try again in a few minutes.”

I have retried this step multiple times over about an hour and always receive the same response. My new connect key is entered in the plugin on the new site under the subdomain, and I have re-entered the key a few times, all without any difference.

The theme I had on my original site is a Connect-only theme (specifically “Uptempo”) but without the plugin working on my new site, I can’t select this theme so I can’t import all my old settings.

I have disabled my VPN, ad blocking, and script blocking plugins on my browser while attempting to get Inspirations set up, which has still not helped (but in setting up the original site, all three of these were active and did not prevent me from setting up).

ADDITIONALLY, in trying to use the Boldgrid bug report widget in my dashboard of the new site, I get an error there too, “There was an error processing your request. Please try again.” !! So I can’t even file a proper bug report!

This is getting extremely frustrating, I have been messing around with this for HOURS trying to figure out the problem and can’t even work on my site in the meantime because I need to use the template.

I’d appreciate a solution so I can begin using Inspirations on my new site. Thank you.

    Hello Dreamer-

First, I apologize for the frustration. I know getting stuck on the very first step to creating a new site is a disheartening experience.

From what you’ve described (both the bug report widget AND Inspirations) it does sound like a communication issue with our asset server.

One thing that might help us out is if you’re able to log into your hosting account via SSH, and run a few commands to help diagnose the issue:

    ping api.boldgrid.com
    traceroute api.boldgrid.com
    curl https://api.boldgrid.com/

If you’re not comfortable using SSH, InMotion provides full support for BoldGrid and they can help you out via their support chat.

In addition, I’d also like to point out that as an InMotion Hosting customer, you actually get a premium key with your account. You can find it in your Account Management Panel, from the “Install BoldGrid” menu option.
