I would like to add a blog section on my homepage but I can’t seem to find a tutorial that covers how to do that. Any info you could provide would be great.

    Thanks,

    Amanda

    Hello Amanda,

Thanks for the question about adding a blog section to your home page. You can go about it a few ways.  Blog content normally comes from posts.  So if you want to keep your existing content, you can log in to the Administrator, click on Customize, Click on Advanced, Click on Home Page settings and then select the page where you want your Blog posts to go.  All of your posts would then be going to that page by default.   If you want to have several categories for your posts, then you can choose to keep the Blog page or get rid of it altogether.  You would then need to first create Categories (under Blog Posts – or Posts if you don’t have BoldGrid loaded).  Then you would go to the Menus section and add each Category as a menu item.  After that, you can create a post, assign it to a category, and then post will appear in that category.  Creating categorized sections is more work and the appearance may require some changes to CSS depending on the theme that you use.  Keep in mind, that if you still set a Blog page in the Homepage Settings, then ALL of the posts would appear on that page.  It can be a little confusing, but you will understand it better if you actually create the pages and then add posts and see how they’re organized by WordPress.  If you don’t want all of the posts to appear in one section, then you would simply not specify a blog page.

I hope that helps to explain it!  If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know.

In your otherwise clear explanation of the role of blog pages you conclude your explanation : “After this…the post will appear in that category”

My concern is that my post are not appearing in connection with anything … not just their relevant category the New posts simply appear nowhere unless I add them to the menu.

So what am I missing in that gap between “then” and “post” (above)

Thank you and in the meantime I will keep experimenting.

    Hi Nicholas-

There are three main ways to show your blog posts- creating a dedicated page for your blog, setting your blog to show on your home page, or using a posts list block on another page. If you have a few minutes, check out these two videos where I’ll explain how to do this:
