    Hi.

We have a simple website with the Inspirations Resolve theme that was created several years ago.
I’ve noticed that the WooCommerce templates are significantly out of date.

After some searching, it appears that the Resolve theme has been discontinued from Inspirations and is now a part of the Crio package.
Is this correct? If so, what is the impact of just leaving the old Woocommerce templates in place?

I suppose we could upgrade to Crio – although our site needs are simple. Through Inmotionhosting, I don’t think I’ve been paying an anuual fee for BoldGrid.
So this Crio would entail a new monthly/annual charge. It’s relatively small now, but I lose control over the money I must spend.

What does the migration path look like from Resolve Inspiration to Resolve Crio? We’ve done basic work on our site, but would we need to hire someone to convert?

It’s a little disconcerting that what we used before at little cost, now morphs into a subscription revenue stream for you – with no control over future price increases.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hello Kevin,

Thank you for reaching out to our support team.

If everything is working as expected with WooCommerce, you’re fine to continue using your current setup. That said, please note that our Version 1 themes are no longer supported. You’re welcome to continue using the theme if it meets your needs, but keep in mind that updates or fixes will not be provided.

If you are an InMotion Hosting customer you should have access to everything you need to setup Crio Pro WordPress theme! Along with our full suite of BoldGrid products. These are available directly from your Central dashboard and included with your InMotion Hosting plan.

Let me know if you’d like help getting started with Crio or have any other questions.

    Thanks
    Elana.

    Hi.

    Thank you for your response.

I still would like an answer to one of the questions in the original post,

“What does the migration path look like from Resolve Inspiration to Resolve Crio? We’ve done basic work on our site, but would we need to hire someone to convert?”

Since I started this reply, I have been in substantial contact with the InMotion Hosting tech support folks.
They even walked me through removing Inspirations and installing/activating Crio.

Then, they said that they didn’t think that Resolve was directly ported to Crio where all I had to do was find/activate it in Crio and I would be whole again. They believe that I need to touch all of the website pages and do work to recover the original look and feel, on a maintained Crio Resolve theme.

So they pushed me back to BoldGrid tech support to get clarification and help.

So what is the real story here and what is the migration path?

    regards,

    Kevin

    Hi.

I still have not seen a response to the response I posted some 5 days ago after Elana posted her response above. Please advise.

    Hello Kevin,

Thank you for reaching out to our support team. I apologize for the delay and truly appreciate your patience.

Migrating from the Resolve theme to Crio can vary depending on how your current site is set up. Custom pages, CSS, and any added WordPress snippets may need to be manually reviewed and brought over during the transition.

I recommend creating a staging environment using a backup of your production site. From there, you can activate Crio and identify which parts of the layout or content need adjustments. You may need to recreate some or all of your pages, as well as rebuild custom menus within the Crio theme.

Since you mentioned you’re using InMotion Hosting, you have access to our premium support team, who can offer more direct assistance than we can in a public forum. To connect with them, log in to your BoldGrid Central account and click “Support Request” to open a private ticket.

Let me know if you’d like help setting up staging or reviewing anything.

    Thanks,
    Elana

    Hi.

    Thank you for your response.

I was laboring under the impression from support people and web searches that the Inspiration Resolve theme was “ported” to Crio.

In other words, the look and feel “in Crio” would remain largely intact. Is there a “Resolve” name theme in Crio that appears just like the one in Inspirations? Thus, I would just need to copy and paste content.

This is a reasonable expectation as it’s “your” Inspiration Theme that you deprecated and “your” Crio. Why would you not “port” the Resolve theme and select defaults for new controls available in Crio? That would be taking good care of your customers and not dropping them on their heads.

The thrust of your answers seem to side step this and just talk about migrating to Crio.

Our site is very simple and we originally took the Inspirations Resolve theme and populated relevent content. We did add WooCommerce and Stripe for payments but did not customize anything.

Frankly, I would say that’s the whole point of your offered theme templates. One does not have to be a full time web developer to produce decent website results.
And I shouldn’t need to become one if BoldGrid deprecates a theme to move to a more capable platform.

Please provide more detail. At some point I can contact Premium Support but not everyone has that and I think folks should see what the answer is here to evaluate their needs and BoldGrid policy.

    regards,

    Kevin

PS I also have noticed that the date/time of my posts in the forum don’t match when I actually submitted them. I understand posts are moderated, but it is not particulary accurate to show my post as occuring days later followed shortly by your response.

    Hello Kevin,

Thank you for following up, and I appreciate you sharing your perspective.

You’re absolutely right! In the past, we did offer a Resolve-to-Crio porting process. That was available during the initial transition period when Resolve was first deprecated. The goal at that time was to help users move to Crio with a layout that closely resembled Resolve. Over time, as the majority of users completed that transition, the specific porting tools and presets were retired and are no longer available.

There is not a “Resolve” version within Crio today that directly matches the original Inspirations layout. While Crio offers significantly more flexibility and customization options, it does not include built-in replicas of specific legacy themes like Resolve. That said, many users have found success by setting up a basic Crio layout and then copying over their content and menus, especially in cases like yours where the site is relatively simple and lightly customized.

I completely understand how this might feel like a heavy lift, especially since the original purpose of using a theme like Resolve was to avoid deep customization. Your feedback about this experience is valid, and I’ll make sure it’s passed along to the product team for future consideration. We always aim to balance innovation with continuity, and I understand this change has made that more difficult for some users.

If you’d like more hands-on assistance, Premium Support can definitely help walk through the steps of setting up Crio and rebuilding the structure. Even though you mentioned that not everyone has access to Premium Support, I’ll continue to support you here to the best of my ability.

Let me know if you’d like help setting up a staging environment or suggestions for recreating your layout in Crio using its available tools. I’m here to help however I can.

    Thanks again,
    Elana

    Hi Elana.

    Thank your for your response.

Finally, after weeks of inquiry (starting 5/28) to three tech support groups, the truth emerges. There is no Resolve theme in Crio. The Inspirations Resolve theme has to be “recreated” in Crio. What was a fill-in-the-blank themed website now becomes a custom job.

It’s rather frustrating to have to persevere this much to find out what’s really happening. And then to hear that there “was” a porting process back in the day exasperates that frustration.

Why not port the Resolve template to Crio and then let all of the customers use it migrate themselves at their discretion? That seems like far less work for you and easier work for your customers. Beats having to help each customer migrate, customizing as they go. Not only do you take good care of existing customers, but you ensure that they get off on the right foot. How many times did my IT company recommend InMotion Hosting and BoldGrid due to the excellent support and care in the past? What a disappointment.

And why not notify Resolve theme users that this was happening and that a porting process was available? Especially if it was a limited time offer.
We, to the best of my knowledge, received no such notice.
You could argue that InMotion Hosting should have provided the primary notification. I agree, but I bet BoldGrid tracks who is using what theme templates and could have done some notifying.

Having worked at software companies before creating my own IT company 20+ years ago, I know that tools and processes aren’t “deleted” or abandoned.
It’s a little hard to believe that are not “accessible”. Sounds like a policy decision.

You also referenced balancing innovation and continuity.
That can be true, but not in this case.
If BoldGrid had provided the same Resolve theme in Crio with defaults for the new controls, there would have been no need to balance anything.
Customers could have migrated, continued as before, and then taken advantage of the new Crio innovations as their needs dictated.
    Simple.
    Excellent customer service.

I appreciate your continued engagement and responses. InMotion Care, which turns out is isolated from InMotion Hosting, is taking steps to recreate the Resolve theme in Crio in the staging environment. I’ve seen the first pass. They copied content but the template with look and feel are not close.
Let’s see how far they get before I contact your support.

This whole journey started with signing up for InMotion Care, which is a new service of InMotion Hosting. For a monthly fee, they are supposed to provide a number of basic website services including WordPress, plugin, and theme update. We chose them over a 3rd party developer as it was InMotion -prior good experience, one-stop shopping, unified control panel and support.

Yet, turns out they are a completely different business unit with no contact/coordination with InMotion Hosting tech support. And communication is only through email and they’re somewhere else in the world – I get replies usually between 2 and 6 a.m.
I’ve had to insist they fulfill what they promised at signup. Five weeks in, I’m still fighting to get simple things done.

You’re welcome to pass on my experience with InMotion to your management. I thought they were supposed to be a major user/supporter of BoldGrid.

I would still like you to inquire further as to whether the porting tool process is still available.
I would also still like a rough estimate of the number of hours (porting tool or not) that would be needed to recreate the Resolve theme in Crio.
Given the expertise you have inhouse, I would expect that would be trivial to estimate.

Given all that is happening we need to evaluate whether we would now have a custom website in Crio and whether will we need 3rd party developer help going forward. Or, maybe we should back off and find a better solution for us and our own clients. We’ll see. It’s certainly been a eye opening experience all around.

    regards,

    Kevin

    Hello Kevin,

Thank you for your thoughtful and detailed message. I truly appreciate the time you took to share your experience, and I can fully understand your frustration with how this transition has unfolded.

You are correct. The Resolve theme was originally offered through the BoldGrid Inspirations system, and for a time, we did offer a basic porting process to help bridge users into Crio. That tool and workflow were retired once the majority of users had migrated. This was a policy decision based on shifting our long-term focus to supporting Crio, which provides a much more flexible and modern framework for building WordPress sites.

You originally reached out in a public forum, which is an online discussion area where users can engage in conversations, share information, and interact with one another with minimalistic support through messages and replies. However, you also had access to Premium Support through your InMotion Hosting’s subscription. That access was mentioned earlier, and I understand how frustrating this can be, however, we could of taken a deeper dive into your situation and given you a more detailed answer on what that work would entail. We recognize that this process can be improved, and your feedback has been heard.

In terms of the rebuild itself, Crio was designed with ease of use and flexibility in mind. Recreating a site like yours can be relatively straightforward because of the way Crio is structured. That said, there are still too many unknown factors to give a precise timeline or guarantee simplicity. Custom code, CSS overrides, snippets, image positioning, and other content decisions can impact the transition—regardless of which theme you switch to, not just Crio.

That’s also why many WordPress themes today are built as frameworks. They are intended to give you full control and design freedom without needing to rely on a child themes or write custom code. The flexibility is powerful, but it also means that some transitions will require hands-on adjustments.

I want to help you through this. We do offer premium services that can assist in recreating your site within Crio if you prefer more guided support. These services are designed for cases just like this, where a site needs to be rebuilt with attention to detail and minimal disruption. You do have options here, and I’ll continue to support you in whichever direction you choose.

Thank you again for your continued engagement and your honest feedback. Please let me know how you’d like to move forward.

    Thanks,
    Elana
