BoldGrid makes it easy to get started with WordPress no matter which blogging platform you’re coming from. In this article, we will show you how you can migrate your blog from your Blogger account.

In order to migrate from Blogger, you will only need to follow two simple steps. The method we advance here will transfer all of your page, post, and media content.

Export the Blogger File

In order to migrate from Blogger to WordPress, you must access the .xml backup file. This file will contain page, post, and comment data.

You can find this file following the steps below:

  1. Blogger menuFrom the blogger admin menu, click Settings.
  2. Choose OtherAnd choose Other.
  3. Backup fileUnder Import & back up click Back up Content.
  4. Download fileSave the .xml file to a convenient location.

Import the Backup File Into WordPress

Once you have downloaded the .xml file to your computer, we will just need to get the contents uploaded into your WordPress/BoldGrid installation.

WordPress comes with Import tools designed to make this a smooth transition.

  1. Log into BoldGridLog into BoldGrid.
  2. Import toolsUnder Tools choose Import.
  3. Install Blogger import toolFor Blogger, click Install Now.
  4. Run ImporterClick Run Importer.
  5. Choose FileClick the Choose File button.
  6. Upload File and ImportAfter choosing your .xml file Upload file and import.
  7. Blogger fileImport the Blogger user or assign posts to a current WordPress user (if your’re unsure, then assign posts to existing user and select from the drop-down list).
  8. SubmitClick Submit.

Well done! You should receive a success notice when the import is complete. You have successfully transferred your blogger content into WordPress and BoldGrid.

If you have gained a following on a blog site but are looking to switch to a self-hosted solution, then fear not: you can easily migrate followers from your hosted site into your BoldGrid site.

The differences between a self-hosted WordPress installation and hosted site are important to understand before getting started:

A “self-hosted” WordPress site would be installed and managed on a personal hosting account. Conversely, a account is managed and distributed from WordPress servers. In this guide, you are required to access both sites to initiate a transfer of data.

Installing and Connecting the Jetpack Plugin

To follow the steps in this article, we assume you have installed the Jetpack plugin and connected it to your hosted site. Nevertheless, the steps to accomplish this are simple.

Starting the Migration at

Now that the Jetpack plugin is installed and connected, and you are logged into, we can begin the migration process.

  1. Switch sitesUse Switch Sites to select the self-hosted site.
  2. SettingsGo to Settings.
  3. Migrate followersAt the bottom of the page select the option to Migrate followers
    from another blog

The process of transferring all of your followers can take a few hours depending on the amount of followers you have. In some cases, the wait may be shorted. In either case, it is best to expect to wait. You will receive confirmation from WordPress once all of the followers have been migrated.

In this article, we will show you how to set up a blog page in BoldGrid and start posting in a few simple steps.

Creating a Blog Page

We must create a blog page first in order for your visitors to see your posts:

  1. Click PagesClick Pages.
  2. Add BlankChoose Add Blank.
  3. Enter TitleEnter title (anything you prefer, but we’ll use “blog” for this example).
  4. Click PublishClick Publish.
  5. Note PermalinkNote the permalink (this is the link for your blog page).
  6. Click BlogUnder Settings choose Blog.
  7. Posts PageFor Posts page: choose your new page (the one created above).

Now your blog posts will display on the page we selected as our Posts page.

Start Posting

Now that we have created a page to display our posts, follow the steps below to start posting:

  1. Select Blog PostsSelect Blog Posts.
  2. Click Add NewClick Add New.
  3. Enter Title and ContentEnter a title and content for your post.
  4. Categories and Tags(Consider adding tags and categories; this helps organize your posts).
  5. Click PublishWhen ready, click Publish.

Click the permalink or View post to see your post live.

Well done! We have just created a blog page and added a post. Remember that your blog page is available at the permalink you retrieved when you created the blog page. Feel free to share that link, so others can see your new blog.
