If you’ve used WPForms before, then it’s possible that you have created custom forms that you can export and import using WPForms Tools. Even if you haven’t used WPForms, this article will help guide you through the process for importing and exporting forms with the WPForms tools in BoldGrid.

Exporting

  1. Log into your BoldGrid Dashboard
  2. Navigate to WPForms toolsHover over WPForms and select Tools
  3. Select forms from drop-down menu to exportUnder the Form Export heading, select the form(s) that you would like to export from the drop-down menu
  4. Click export buttonOnce you have made your selection, click the Export button
  5. Your exported forms file will automatically begin downloading in the .JSON file format

Importing

  1. Log into your BoldGrid Dashboard
  2. Navigate to WPForms toolsHover over WPForms and select Tools
  3. Click choose a fileUnder the Form Import heading, click the Choose a file button
  4. Select file and click open A pop-up window will appear. Locate the file you would like to import on your computer and select Open
  5. Click Import to begin importing the selected file
  6. Successful import messageYou should see a successful message, once the import has completed
  7. Confirm import in all formsTo confirm the imported forms, navigate to All Forms and review the forms listed.

When you are viewing Form Submission options they can be applied to the submissions that are created. Learn about these options in the descriptions below. Please see How to View a Submission for a quick tutorial on viewing the submissions.

View Submissions in Table

After you have selected a Form,  you will see the submissions listed by number, name, email, subject, body and date. You can click on any of the column headers in order to sort the list by that header in ascending or descending order.  3382-submissions-view-sort-options

Edit a Submission

Hover over the number of the submission and you will see the Edit | Export | Trash form submission options appear. Click on Edit to edit the submission.  3382-submissions-edit-option
The edit submission page allows you to update any of the entries on the form. Click on any of the fields to make edits. Click on the Update button in order to save your changes.  3382-submissions-edit-user-submit

Export a Submission

Hover over the number and then click on Export when it appears.  3382-submissions-export-option
You will see the file attempt to save as a .CSV file. Click on Save to complete the export.  3382-submissions-export-button

Trash a Submission

The Trash option lets you delete individual submissions. Click on the submission to choose it, then click on Trash in order put the entry into the trash. 3382-submissions-trash-option 

Search Submissions

Type your search term into the field next to the Search Submissions button. Click on Search Submissions to begin your search. 3382-submissions-search-option 

Bulk Actions

Click on the drop down in order to select the bulk actions of Export or Trash. You will need to select at least one submission in order to apply either of these actions. When at least one submission has been selected and you have selected a bulk action, click on Apply in order to run that action. 3382-submissions-bulk-actions 

Filter Submissions by Date

Type in the dates that you want to filter using the Begin Date and End Date fields a the top of the form, then click on Filter. 3382-submissions-filter-date 

Download All Submissions

At the bottom of the page, you will see a button labeled Download All Submissions. Click on this button in order export all of the submissions. Please be careful in using this option if you have thousands of submissions as it can affect the performance of your server. If you must download the entries, use it during off-peak hours or during a maintenance period for your site.  It will save the file as a .CSV file.  3382-submissions-download-option

When making forms in BoldGrid you have the ability to create custom Emails & Actions. Examples of these are email notifications, redirects, or success messages. Creating custom form actions applies to the form that you are editing or developing in the Build Your Form tab. We will now show you how to create these 3 types of actions.

          

Email Action

  1. Log into BoldGrid.
  2. Click Forms.2918-1-forms

    From Name Email will appear to be from this name.
    From Address Email will appear to be from this email address.
    To Who should this email be sent to?
    Subject This will be the subject of the email.
    Email Message Put the body of your email message here.

Redirect

  1. Log into BoldGrid.

When you load BoldGrid for WordPress, it includes a powerful form plugin called Ninja Forms. This plugin is loaded when your chosen Inspiration is installed. Ninja Forms allows you to create custom forms with template fields, layout elements, and setup actions for the form. There are a wide variety of options that you can create with Ninja Forms, and we will show in this tutorial how to create a new form in BoldGrid.

How to Build a New Form in Ninja Forms

  1. Login to the BoldGrid Administrator.
  2. forms-menuClick on the menu item labeled Forms.If you don’t see a Forms option, then you may need to load an Inspiration.

  4. fields-elementsChoose the elements that make up your form by clicking on them from the menu at left. Each option that you can select is described in the section after these instructions.
  5. save-buttonClick on one of the blue Save buttons to save your form.

You can also add or edit actions for the form by clicking on the Email & Actions tab. Note that the actions  you add or edit apply to the form that you are currently editing or creating.  For information on the Settings tab, please see Ninja Form Settings.


Elements of a Form

 When you wish to create a new form in BoldGrid, you will be selecting fields, elements, user information fields, and payment fields to add to the form. Each section is displayed and defined below. 

Textbox options

 The textbox is used to provide an input field for text.  This is generally used for shorter amounts of text.  Large amounts of text where paragraphs would be expected are covered by the Text Area field.

Label Position This option lets you position where the label will be placed in relation to the text entry. The position can be: left, right, above, below or inside the entry field element. 2958-label-position 
Placeholder Temporary text that appears in the input element until text is entered; this is an HTML5 feature 2958-placeholder 
Restriction Settings Settings that limit what can be typed into the textbox:

  • Validate as an email address?(Field must be required) – Tests the entered text to make sure it is in the format of an email address.
  • Disable Input – Disables the input of text into the field.
  • Required – Makes entry of text mandatory.
  • Input Mask – Require that the entered text match a pre-determined format.
  • Limit input to this number – Allows you to limit the input by a certain amount.
  • of – characters or words – You can choose if the limit will be counted by characters or words.
  • Text to appear after character/word counter – This text describes the characters/words counted.

Advanced Settings
  • Datepicker – Displays the datepicker pop-up when the field is selected.
  • This is the user’s state – This option validates a user’s state against  payment processing solutions like PayPal or Stripe.
  • Disable Browser Autocomplete – Removes autocomplete provided by the internet browser.
  • Sort as numeric (If this box is checked, this column in the submissions table will sort by number) – Column in submission table will sort by number.
  • Default Value –  Value assigned to field can be set to none, user ID, post/page ID, custom or query .
  • Admin Label – Label used when viewing, editing,  or exporting submissions.
  • User Info Field Group –  Determines if used for billing, shipping or custom.
  • Custom CSS Classes – You can call custom CSS from this location.
  • Show Help Text – Allows you to add text that will appear over. 
  • Add Description –  Allows you to add description text to the fields.

List options

This option lets you configure lists within your form. Note that some of the options will not appear unless you select the checkbox labeled Show option values. List items can be

Submit

When you save your form a Submit button must be on the form.  A warning will appear if you attempt to save the form without the Submit button. It will give you the option to save one in place for you. The options for the Submit button are listed below.

The anti-spam option prevents bots from hitting your form using question and answer responses. This prevents bots from providing automatic answers with the intention of sending you spam. You will need to add a spam question and spam answer .

The textarea allows you to add an area where users can input a large block of text and other media to your form. You have the option to use a rich text editor, enable the option to upload media, and change the editor for mobile environments.

Layout Elements

The Layout elements provide a way to create a horizontal row or text that can be part of your form simply for structural purposes. These elements would not be part of the collecting or calculating parts of the form.

 

HR

“HR” stands for horizontal row. This option lets you create a horizon line on your form.

Text

This option allows you to add non-interactive text to your form.

Text Element Click on this option to determine how you want to display the text.

User Information

                                                                  

User Information fields allow you request user information such as the first name, last name, address, city, state, country and post code. It also includes options for email and phone fields. These fields are added one at a time have the same options. The summary of all of the User Information fields are listed below:

First Name, Last Name, Address 1, Address 2, City and Zip/Post Code

These User Information fields all have the same options when selected.  The user information fields provide information about the user including name, location and contact information.

State

The State field in User Information includes all of the states in the United States and also allows you to add custom states.

This option allows the selection of a country on the form. The default country is set to the United States, but it can be changed using the drop down menu.

Phone

Subtotal and Total

This field calculates the subtotal on your form. The total summarizes the calculations on the form. These options use the same set functions if you choose them for your form.

Form submissions will automatically be sent to the admin email address in your BoldGrid site.  This is the address you entered when you first installed WordPress. We will show you how to view/modify the email address in Ninja Forms of your BoldGrid site. We’ll also walk you through testing the form by submitting information, and verifying that you received the email with the form submission. View/Modify my Admin Email Address

  1. Log into BoldGrid.
  2. Click Settings & then click General in the navigation menu.2640-1-general-settings
  3. You can then view/modify your admin address in the “Email Address” section. Keep in mind, this is also the address WordPress notifications will be sent to, such as update reminders, comments, or replies.2640-2-admin-email
  4. Click the Save Changes button to record any changes you have made.

Confirming the Changed Admin Email Address

  1. Navigate to the form on your website. In our tests, we are going to the “Contact us” page.
  2. Fill out the required fields on your form. We recommend entering a different email address from your admin email. Then, click the Submit button.2640-3-submit-form-test
