You may have noticed after installing BoldGrid that the WordPress admin menu has been modified. Some buttons have been added, others have disappeared. For example, the WordPress Appearance tab is gone. You now have Customize instead. If you are new to WordPress and BoldGrid, then this may not affect your experience at all.

However, if you are a WordPress veteran, you may want to bring back the look and feel of your default WordPress admin menu. Learn how to restore the WordPress admin menu after you have installed BoldGrid.

Restore WordPress Admin Menu

Follow the steps below to restore your default WordPress admin menu:

  1. Click BoldGridUnder Settings choose BoldGrid.
  2. Uncheck boxFor the setting titled Reorder Admin Menu uncheck the box labeled Use BoldGrid Admin Menu system.
  3. Save ChangesClick Save Changes.

3711_Selection_05Notice how the admin menu has changed. The BoldGrid menu options have now been placed under the single BoldGrid icon, and the default WordPress options have appeared. For example, the Appearance options have appeared again.

If you would like to return to the BoldGrid admin interface, you can follow the same steps as above and re-check the box labeled Use BoldGrid Admin Menu system.

A common task in editing a WordPress site is learning how to add a page to the menu.  This can be done using the Customize option.

  1.  2716-1-click-customize  When you are logged into the BoldGrid admin, click on Customize.

     2716-1-customize-menu-barYou can also be logged in as an administrator viewing the website. You can select Customize from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

  2. Click on the Menus tab from the left-hand menu.
  3. Click on Primary.
  4. Click the Add Items button.
  5. Click on Pages.
  6. Select the page that you wish to add from the Pages list. As an example, we are adding “Add this page” as per the screenshot at right. Click on the plus sign to the left of the page title to add the page to your menu.  It will change to a checkmark to confirm your selection.
  7.  Click Save & Publish to save the menu changes.

Now you can visit the site and see the new addition to the menu.  Congratulations! You have learned how to add a page to the menu.

After working with the background tab, we are ready to move on to the “Fonts” tab. Here you will customize fonts for your BoldGrid site. All the fonts in BoldGrid are available for free use and do not require third-party plugins.

  1. Choose Fonts.
  2. For our sample site, we decide we only want to change the font for the menu. Select Menus.
  3. Adjust the Primary Menu Font to Open Sans Condensed and  Primary Menu Font Size to 13.
  4. Click Save & Publish.
