{"id":16795,"date":"2020-05-20T12:54:00","date_gmt":"2020-05-20T16:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.boldgrid.com\/support\/edu\/woocommerce\/how-to-add-additional-tax-classes-in-woocommerce\/"},"modified":"2020-05-21T16:15:54","modified_gmt":"2020-05-21T20:15:54","slug":"how-to-add-additional-tax-classes-in-woocommerce","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.boldgrid.com\/support\/boldgrid-woocommerce-plugin-product-guide\/how-to-add-additional-tax-classes-in-woocommerce\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Add Additional Tax Classes in WooCommerce"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><html><body><p>If you are using WooCommerce as your e-commerce solution, then you should be using the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Automated Taxes<\/span>&nbsp;option. &nbsp;This option automatically calculates sales taxes for your customers when they go through the checkout process. &nbsp;Having the taxes automatically processed for you is a huge timesaver, but there may be exceptions that you need to specify. &nbsp;In order to do this, you can create <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Additional Tax Classes<\/span>&nbsp;through the WooCommerce interface.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">NOTE: The instructions in this article require that the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;\">Enable Taxes<\/span><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">&nbsp;option is selected and active. The <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;\">Enable Taxes<\/span><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">&nbsp;option can be found in WooCommerce Settings under the General Tab.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"adding-additional-tax-classes-in-the-taxes-section\">Adding Additional Tax Classes in the Taxes Section<\/h2>\n<h3 id=\"\"><\/h3>\n<h3 id=\"understanding-tax-classes\">Understanding Tax Classes<\/h3>\n<p>When the Automated Taxes option is enabled, then all sales taxes are automatically calculated for your customer during checkout. &nbsp;However, if you need to change the taxes for a specific region, then you can do so by adding an additional tax class. &nbsp;Tax classes are based on location. &nbsp;You can apply a tax rate for everyone by assigning them to a single location (typically your shop address), or you can create geographic locations and then change the tax rate for that location(s). &nbsp;You can create spreadsheets of locations based on Post\/Zip Code and then import them into WooCommerce using a CSV-formatted file. &nbsp;Creating tax classes can be extensive and you may be required to consult with a tax professional to properly account for a region&rsquo;s required taxes.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"\"><\/h3>\n<h3 id=\"adding-a-tax-class\">Adding a Tax Class<\/h3>\n<p>When you add a tax class you will see it listed at the top of the Tax tab in the WooCommerce Settings. &nbsp;Follow the directions below to add a new tax class. &nbsp;Note that you can set up one tax class label per line.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.boldgrid.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/6f70a956-6c4f-46d4-b0a8-db6cc343b903_woocommerce-tax-tab.png\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In the menu column at left, click on <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">WooCommerce<\/span>, then click on <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Settings<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Click on the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Tax<\/span>&nbsp;tab<\/li>\n<li>Scroll down to where you see <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Additional tax classes<\/span><\/li>\n<li>By default, you will see <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Reduced rate<\/span>&nbsp;and <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Zero rate<\/span>. Click on the field you see these two rates. &nbsp;If you see the cursor at the end of the Zero rate entry, hit your enter key to go to the next line. &nbsp;You can only have one tax class defined per line. &nbsp;Type in the name for the tax class that you wish to add<\/li>\n<li>Once you have typed in your tax class name, scroll &nbsp;to the bottom and click on <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Save changes<\/span><\/li>\n<li>When the tax class has been added, Go to the top of the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Tax<\/span>&nbsp;tab and click on the link for your newly defined tax class.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.boldgrid.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/eeb6273c-f875-49ca-88ce-a1e7f096f872_new-tax-class.png\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Here you can define your new tax class by clicking on Insert line. &nbsp;If you have a list of locations in a spreadsheet, make sure you are using the CSV format and then import the CSV file using the import option in the bottom right corner of the table. &nbsp;You can also export the table as a CSV file to edit if needed. &nbsp;Once you have completed adding the tax class definition, click on <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Save Changes<\/span>&nbsp;at the bottom of the page.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations!
