That website is using a third party theme theme called Talon.  It uses Bootstrap  - much like we (@BoldGrid) do.  Bootstrap is quite often used to configure themes to make them responsive.  When I looked at your site (uglyhoods.com), I also looked at the page where the theme is from:  https://athemes.com/theme/talon/.  If you look at the demo page closely, the theme has columns along the bottom half of the page.  Thus anything that you place in that portion of the page will be aligned in the left column.  I looked at their demo site to further confirm the format:  https://demo.athemes.com/talon/.   BoldGrid did not push the content left as it was the result of the theme format.  This is not easily changed within the theme.  You will need to speak with the theme developer for more assistance in that regard.  I hope this helps to clarify the issue.

Bootstrap is often used to create responsive templates for websites.  This allows for people to have a single website design that adapts to different screen sizes (e.g. monitors, tablets, smart phones).  The only drawback is that content on the webpage must conform to that template.  If you want to see examples of Bootstrap templates, you can see some here.

Apologies for any confusion.  If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know.

Kindest regards,

Hello Kate,

You will need to obtain the group URL  - but if the book is closed, then only members can see it.  The Facebook social media icon in BoldGrid can be set with any URL.  You would use the URL there.  If you are looking for a specific function for that URL(outside of what I just mentioned above), then you would need to get that from Facebook.

If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know.

The update will not affect your website content. Always make a backup before making changes to your installation to give yourself insurance in the event that something unforeseen happens.  I hope that helps to answer your question! If you require further assistance please let us know!

Hello Artbyavril,

Thanks for your questions regarding the setup of an artist gallery in BoldGrid using Woo Multi layout.  As this is a 3rd party plugin for WooCommerce you will need to refer to their documentation on how it is used. When you install WooCommerce under BoldGrid, it is typically setup as a separate page.  You can see how it installed in this tutorial. Also, this particular plugin may require a separate WordPress installation as it appears to take over the entire site appearance in WordPress.  You can maintain the BoldGrid site and simply add a link in the menu that jumps to the WooCommerce site.  Apologies that I can't provide a clearer answer as Woo Multi layout is a paid 3rd party plugin to which we do not have access.

Hello Knzon,

Thanks for the question about the Haven landing page image.  This is actually the background image and it is 1920x1080 pixels.  You can replace the image by going into the Customizer, then clicking on Background then clicking on Change Image.  When you're in the Media library (to select the image), you will see the suggested image dimension in the top left corner.

If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know.

Hello J.mckenna3552,

Thanks for question about making your final webpage live.  It depends on how you're developing your WordPress site.  We would need more information in order to provide you an answer.  Please tell us how you're using BoldGrid (e.g. hosting service, BoldGrid central, offline server) and then we can provide a definitive answer to your question.

If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know.

Kindest regards,

Arnel C.

Hello Knzon,

Thanks for your question in regards to removing the vertical scroll bar.  This can be done, but only with custom CSS coding.  I have found a set of code that you can apply to your site using the Customizer > Advanced > Custom JS and CSS section.  The problem is that it does affect the behavior of the background image of the site.

html {
overflow: scroll;
overflow-x: hidden;
}
::-webkit-scrollbar {
width: 0px; /* remove scrollbar space /
background: transparent; / optional: just make scrollbar invisible /
}
/ optional: show position indicator in red */
}
:-webkit-scrollbar-thumb {
background: #FF0000;
}

My recommendation to you would be to speak with an experienced web designer if you are not experienced in making CSS changes. You can use the code above, but at your own risk.  We do not typically provide custom code. Make sure that you make a backup of your site before you make any changes.  This way you can recover is something  happens.

If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know.

Hello J.ball,

Sorry for the problems with editing the locatoin of your logo and menu.  Typically, this can only be done through the functionality provided within BoldGrid.  If you are trying to move it outside of the options provided by BoldGrid, then it will require custom coding.

The reason for this is that the Inspirations provided within BoldGrid were created using responsive website design techniques. This was done in order to allow you to have a website that can handle multiple screen sizes without having different sets of code. For clarification, an Inspiration is a set of pre-built pages built on a particular theme. You can use the Inspiration without having to create a site - you just need to add content and replace images.  A theme is a set style/format that does not include the pre-built pages.

Changing the location for a logo and menu will often depend on the Inspiration that you are using.  Depending on the Inspiration you will be able to move the the logo for a certain distance, but it may be restricted to your image.  This means that you can change the position of your logo in the image that you use. However, it may not be what you want.

The Customizer screen allows you to select a Site Title OR a Logo.  My advise is that you create a site title with the logo in it.  Here's an example:

Here you can see the customizer screen and how you can move the logo.  The responsive design of the Inspiration/theme limits how far you can move a logo.

In terms of the menu, as per the logo, the design of the inspiration limits its location.  If you go to the customizer you can see where you can place it:

I would recommend that you select a different inspiration/theme to meet your logo/menu placement requirements.  Otherwise, you will need to speak with an experienced web designer to change the code so that you can move things to the specific location that you want.

If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know.

Hello Lynn,

Sorry for the frustration you're having with the header of your Monument Fitness inspiration.  I took a look at it in one of my test sites and this is what I saw:

These inspirations are formatted using responsive design techniques, so they are preset into a particular format in order to allow for the site to be displayed in varying screen sizes. This particular inspiration has a column header to the left, a background image under the body that is fixed.  You can see a portion of it (the blue sneaker) under the right side of the page.  So, in this case, the Inspiration does not allow you to have a banner header across the top of the screen.  You would have to add custom code and fundamentally change the design of the theme.  You can see the allowed areas for adding a widget by going to Customize and then hovering over the options in the menu.

My recommendation would be to use a different Inspiration that supports the banner header at the top of the page.  Apologies that we don't have a direct way of using the banner header in this particular Inspiration.  If you have any further questions, please let us know.

Kindest regards,

Arnel C.

Hello, Boldmaven 21,

The easiest way to do this is to use the Staging feature of BoldGrid.  There are additional steps you need to do before comparing though.

  1. First, you will need to load a Staging site, if you have not done it already.  You can do this by going into Inspirations, selecting one, and then installing it.  You will get a choice to select if the staging site will be loaded during the installation of the Inspiration.
  2. When you the staging site installed, go to Pages and view all.  You will see that there is a column labeled Development group.  This lists all of your pages in Active and in Staging.  Look at your pages and copy all of your pages to the Staging site.  If you are using the default names for the pages, then I recommend that you first rename all of the staging pages before copying all of your Active pages over.  You don't have to transfer Posts over in the same as pages.
  3. After you have all of your pages copied to Staging, go back to BoldGrid Admin Dashboard.  Hover over your domain/company name in the top left corner and select Staging site.
  4. Click on Customize
  5. The Background image is set to the default one used by the Inspiration that you selected.  You can change it in Customization by clicking on Background.
  6. The Menu does not transfer over automatically, but it's easy to recreate it by simply clicking on Menus, then Primary menu, or whatever menu you are using if you have created another (for Staging).
  7. Here you will need to re-create or add items that might be missing from your menu.  If you need to remove an item, click the drop-down arrow for the menu item and click on REMOVE.  To ADD a menu item, click on ADD ITEMS.
  8. Generally, posts are set up under Pages, but if you're putting them directly in the menu, then you need to do so here.  To add a sub-menu item, select it under ADD ITEMS and then drag it into position in the menu column to the left.
  9. When you have finished ordering your items then click on PUBLISH in the top left column of the Customization menu.

When you finish these steps you are looking at your old site pages using a different Inspiration.  Note that if you re-load an inspiration you will remove all of the entries from your site, so please proceed with caution when loading an Inspiration.  There is an option called CHANGE THEMES.  But this only works if the theme is already loaded.

In other words, you can go to your staging site and change the theme and it will replace everything in the site with that theme, but the Inspiration would already need to be loaded in the themes section.  (Inspiration is a pre-built website - a theme is a framework without the pages. Loading an inspiration removes the existing pages in an active or staging site).

I hope this is clear - I know it's a little confusing when talking Inspirations and themes. As with anything, I highly recommend using the BoldGrid Backup plugin to make a backup of your site before you proceed with duplicating your pages, etc.

A staging site is viewable through the internet, but ONLY by administrator users for your site.  So, you can leave your active site running and then make changes or update your site by using the pages copied to your Staging site.  You can then see your site BEFORE it's available for everyone to see.

When you are ready to deploy your Staging site, you would hover over Customize in the BoldGrid Admin Dashboard and select Deploy Staging.  Since you are now familiar with the different development groups, I recommend selecting the advanced tab during the Staging Deployment and then reviewing each page that you will be replacing on your active site with your staging site.

I hope this helps you to refresh/rebuild your site!  Please let us know if you have any further questions!

Kindest regards,

Arnel C.
