Problems with site?

David A Mulholland 5 years ago updated by Jesse Owens (Community Manager) 5 years ago 1

Hi Guys, I got this in an email. (below)  On checking in Admin section of my site there is indeed 3 comments. How and is this person actually commenting on the site as I do not have any section added for this?

Also, on checking one of those urls below it does say "missing" on all the links?

e.g. Missing: wp- ‎admin/ ‎comment. ‎php? ‎action= ‎approve&c= ‎4# ‎wpbody- ‎content

https://www.google.com/search?q=%3A+https%3A%2F%redacted.co.uk%2Fwp-admin%2Fcomment.php%3Faction%3Dapprove%26c%3D4%23wpbody-content&rlz=1C1CHBD_en-GBGB859GB859&oq=%3A+https%3A%2F%2Fbusinessmoneymatters.co.uk%2Fwp-admin%2Fcomment.php%3Faction%3Dapprove%26c%3D4%23wpbody-content&aqs=chrome..69i57.1321j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

So what is this all about Guys?

Here is the email that was sent to me....

Answer

Hello David,

Thanks for your questions, I'm sorry you're seeing comments on your site pop up that you don't want or need, as well as unexpected Google Search results.

For your first question regarding "Missing: " appearing on the Google Search results page you linked, the link you have there is actually to a Google Search query containing the entire URL, 'https://redacted.co.uk/wp-admin/comment.php?action=approve&c=4#wpbody-content' as if you were searching for the URL, instead of navigating to it.

Google still attempts to provide relevant results, but it lets you know which parts of the search query are "missing" from its index. So, in this screenshot:

Google is basically saying, "I think you're looking for this website, but I want to let you know that this page doesn't contain some of the things you searched for, like wp-admin, comment, php?, action= ..."

You can avoid seeing these results by entering the URL's directly into your browser's navigation bar, rather than a Google search form.

For your second question, I checked on the page you linked to, /david-mullholland/ and it does contain a comments form. In order to disable comments on an existing page or post, hover over it with your mouse on the All Posts/Pages menu screen, and click Quick Edit. Un-check the boxes for Allow Comments and Allow Pings, and then click Update.

WPBeginner also has a really good article with a video tutorial on completely disabling comments throughout your site. I hope this helps!

Update button - too far down

cruciblecom 5 years ago updated by Jesse Owens (Community Manager) 5 years ago 1

Why is the Update button at the bottom of the page? This is a real pain. There should be two, one at the top like in WORDPRESS and one at the bottom

Answer

Hello,

Thanks for the great question, I'm sorry that you're having a painful time using the update button.

Since BoldGrid's Post and Page Builder is a plugin for WordPress, the general layout of the editor screen is the same as the Classic Editor for WordPress.

That is, by default, the editor screen is displayed in two columns, with the Publish/Update buttons at the top-right of the screen.

I can think of two possible reasons you may be seeing the Update button at the bottom, rather than the top-right. Those are

  1. The browser window you're using is too narrow to show both columns, so the right column gets moved below the editing window, or
  2. Your Screen Options may have been accidentally set to 1 Column, rather than 2.

Presuming you're using a standard-width desktop browsing window, check your screen options tab (at the very top of the editor screen) and make sure that it's set to 2 Columns.

Here's a brief animation I created to demonstrate:

If you're unable to use a wider browser window, you might also consider disabling the "Enable full-height editor and distraction-free functionality," which will at least make the distance to scroll down a lot shorter.

Hydra theme - How can I display different background images dynamically on each page ?

cruciblecom 5 years ago updated by Jesse Owens (Community Manager) 5 years ago 2

I want my background image to switch when I change pages, including the home page. Right now in the Hydra theme, the photo / banner is the same on every page.

Answer

Hello,

Thanks for the great question. In the Version 1 Themes, like Hydra, the header background image is the same on each post and page.

This feature is available, in a way, in Version 2 of the BoldGrid Theme Framework, which you can start using with the Crio Supertheme. However, I should note, that in the current version of Crio, the header background images are chosen randomly, not per-page. This is a great idea for a feature request.

I tested out the WP Display Header plugin both with the BoldGrid Hydra Theme, as well as the default WordPress theme Twenty Nineteen and in each case the plugin has a fatal error on activation. The plugin has not been updated in 2 years, and its author isn't responding to the support forum, so I don't recommend trying this one out.

We do appreciate the feedback, and we'll look at adding the capability to set a different header image per page in future releases.

crio

Hi,

Is the crio super theme not included in my subscription? ([redacted]@gmail.com)

Answer

Hello Koen,

Thanks for your question! This is a public forum, so I've edited your message to redact your email before answering.

BoldGrid Crio Premium is sold separately from the BoldGrid Premium Suite, which includes Post and Page Builder Premium, BoldGrid Backup Premium, as well as premium access to Cloud WordPress and Speed Coach.

Of course, the free version of BoldGrid Crio available on the WordPress.org theme repository is a fully functional advanced design suite, or you can purchase a separate license to Crio Premium here.

Is there a place where all the available fonts are listed so I can pass it on to my designer?

Is there a place where all the available fonts are listed so I can pass it on to my designer?

Answer

Hello!
Thanks for the excellent question. The BoldGrid Theme Framework uses Google Fonts, and they can all be found at https://fonts.google.com

I hope this helps!

Answer

Hi JT, sorry for my misunderstanding!
That irksome area is a part of the discussion section, so I misunderstood what you meant there.

We can use a little bit of Custom CSS to make sure these aren't displayed for your visitors. Navigate to Customize -> Advanced -> Custom JS & CSS and paste the following code into the box labeled Custom Theme CSS.

.comment-form > .form-allowed-tags { display: none; }
.comment-form > .alert { display: none; }

I hope this does the trick for you!

Blank template

Rodney Harrier 5 years ago updated by Jesse Owens (Community Manager) 5 years ago 1

I want to start with a blank template and add my own background images, banners, pictures, texts boxes, and everything else. Can I do that?

Answer

Hello Rodney-

Great Question! The BoldGrid Inspirations process is meant to do just that- provide something to inspire you with, rather than starting off with a blank canvas.

Of course, if you'd rather start with a blank canvas you certainly can!
Probably the easiest way to do this would be to proceed through the Inspirations installation, and once it's finished send the content into the trash:

Alternatively, you can also download and install the BoldGrid Plugins and Themes manually from your BoldGrid Central account, in a new WordPress installation.

I hope this helps!

How to fix Fatal error: Call to undefined method Boldgrid\Library\Util\Version::getWpFilesystem()?

scott 5 years ago updated by Jesse Owens (Community Manager) 5 years ago 7

Everything was working fine, and did an update to two Boldgrid plugins, and now I get this error and can not user my admin Dashboard.

Fatal error: Call to undefined method Boldgrid\Library\Util\Version::getWpFilesystem() in /home/xxxxxxx/public_html/xxxxxxx/wp-content/plugins/boldgrid-inspirations/vendor/boldgrid/library/src/Library/Plugin/Plugin.php on line 312
The site is experiencing technical difficulties. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.

I Xed out my site information.   What could be causing this?

Answer

Hi Scott-
Sorry about that, here are the steps, in order, that you should take to resolve the error.

First, rename the plugin so that you can gain access to your dashboard.

Second, once you're in your dashboard, re-install the plugin (not name it back). You can download it from this link.

After you reinstall it, click "Activate" so that it can load the correct updated library.

Alternatively, if you have SSH access, the following WP-CLI command will resolve this issue as well:

wp plugin deactivate boldgrid-inspirations --skip-plugins && wp plugin activate boldgrid-inspirations

I hope this helps

Design of multi-post blog page, titles and links

AIF 5 years ago updated by Jesse Owens (Community Manager) 5 years ago 1

I am trying to change the design of my page that has multiple blog posts on it. I would like to change the display of the blog titles on this page by moving them, and the link to the individual posts, below the post date. I cannot find a way to do this in the customizer. It seems to be considered part of the post, and therefore asks you to edit in posts section; however no such setting exist in that area either.

Answer

Hello,

Thanks for the excellent question. This type of customization is generally accomplished by using a child theme, however, you can also accomplish it using some custom JavaScript.

The following example was made using the BoldGrid Swifty Theme, so your theme may have some different selectors. Copy this into your Customize -> Advanced -> Custom CSS & JS menu in the Custom Theme JS section:

jQuery('article > header').each(function (index, value) {
    jQuery( this ).find('div.entry-meta').after( jQuery( this ).find('h1.entry-title') );
});

This will swap the Entry Meta (date, author, etc) with the title to look like this:

If this doesn't work as written, let me know which theme you're using and I can adjust the CSS selectors for you. I hope this helps!

Answer

Hello David,

Thanks for the great question. Google will send you this message if you have submitted a sitemap that contains pages marked as "noindex" inside your Google Search console.

There are two ways to resolve this, depending on your needs. You can either remove the "noindex" from the posts and pages it is mentioning, or you can remove those posts and pages from your sitemap, if the noindex directive was intentional.

Judging by the link you posted, it looks like you're using the popular plugin Google XML Sitemaps to generate your sitemap files. In order to exclude posts and pages from your sitemap, navigate to Settings -> XML Sitemaps and scroll down to Excluded Items. Here you can add a comma-separated list of the post ID's you need to exclude from your sitemap.

Here are the instructions from the Plugin's developer on excluding items.

I hope this helps!
