Cannot restore websites from Backup

Dear Boldgrid,

Four of my sites went down.   I was able to restore 2 of them with backup.  However, I cannot restore the other 2.    

With one Bolgrid Backup the compressed file reads invalid.   It is sitting in the boldgrid backup folder, on google and downloaded on my computer.  I can't ftp it or upload it through CP because I can't unzip it and the zip is invalid.  It cannot be unzipped even when I click on the file for extraction in the boldgrid backup folder. 4 GB

The other one is 1.91 GB.  It will unzip but it throws an error on restoration.   Two files seems to be corrupt:  a php.config and a tmp  file.

I will give more information about the websites when I hear from you.  FYI one  in a National Organization (non-profit)  and the other is a Global Ministry.   


FYI:  The 2 restored were small files under 1 GB each.    The hosting company didn't back up the sites because my account is nearly 50 GB.    

We need your assistance.

Thanks for the great questions. I'm sorry you're having trouble restoring your backup files.

For backups that large, especially if you're on a shared hosting plan, I suspect that you might be running into limits for your server's Disk I/O. Most shared servers limit the amount of data written into and read out of the hard disk (I/O meaning input and output). 

Since your backup ZIP files are corrupt, your best bet will be to try to repair them. Here's an article I found that has some ZIP repair utilities, some free and others that are paid.

If your Web Server is Linux-based, you can also try logging into your server with SSH and using the following commands (if your backup directory is set to the default value of boldgrid_backup, otherwise replace the directory name in the cd command):

cd ~/boldgrid_backup
zip -FF boldgrid-backup-[abc123]-corrupt.zip --out new-repaired-boldgrid-backup-[abc123].zip

For a zip file over 4GB in size, this might take a considerable amount of time to run, and any files that are too corrupted may be lost.

Make sure that your new ZIP filename contains the strings "boldgrid-backup-" and your unique BoldGrid Backup ID, which is a 6-character random string. Then you should be able to restore the backup from your Dashboard.

I'm using the Diced theme and need the ability to add either a carousel gallery or a lightbox style gallery?

Both of these types of galleries are used at the top of the Hifidel theme. I have installed the Boldgrid Gallery plugin but can't determine if either are included.

Thanks for the great questions, I'm sorry you're having a frustrating experience creating Galleries.

Let me try to address your each of your questions:

How to add either a carousel or lightbox style gallery? The "Slider" type galleries most closely fit these needs, as well as the "Coverflow" style gallery, which adds a little more stylistic appearance.

There are a couple of ways to actually add the gallery, either via the "Add Media" button or via the large + button, as demonstrated in the video below

Sometimes just 1 image, sometimes just a sliver of each image... As you can see in the video, I also experienced the issue where only a sliver of the images appeared. In order to get around that, you can click the "Save Draft" button. I'll let our developers know about that bug.

...both the carousel and lightbox are shown on the home page in the demo but are not in the theme install. What goes?

The starter content is imported during the BoldGrid Inspirations installation. The content will change depending on which Industry and Content set you choose. I recommend choosing the "Kitchen Sink" so that you can see all of the different content types available.

...my screen does not give me the option to "Edit Gallery" as shown in the tutorial.

As shown in the video above, when you click on an image in your gallery, you should see a small menu with a Pencil and an X. Click on the pencil to edit your gallery.

AMP & Boldgrid Compatibility

Hello,

I am trying to use Boldgrid Theme Cobalt (Consulting) with AMP plugin. Seems great and everything but I am having two issues.

1) Running AMP with Experiences > Website > ON;  Website Mode > Standard;  Supported Templates > Serve all templates as AMP regardless of what is being queried > Checked

    This is causing an issue where my Site Logo is not showing on both mobile and desktop.

2)Unrelated, running AMP is causing an issue with the 404.php page. Server HTTP status code: -1

I know issue 2 is unrelated to boldgrid but any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the great question. At this time, we recommend running AMP in Website Mode -> Transitional mode to preserve the look and feel of your Cobalt website while serving accelerated mobile pages.

I suspect that switching to Transitional mode will fix your issue with your 404 pages as well, but if it doesn't you might also try disabling the 404 template in your AMP settings:

how do I make text margins conform with visual elements on a page?

I'm adding text descriptions of my embedded videos on a page and I'd like those paragraphs to conform to the width of the embedded videos.  how do I do that?  I'm not concerned that the text would not be visible if the visitor activates full screen on the video; I'm just concerned that the text doesn't have the same boundaries as the video.

Hello! Thanks for the great question.

Your best bet to accomplish this is to make sure that the video is the same size as the column container your text is in.

If you check out this video:

That first method I showed, where you drag the column container of your video embed, will make sure that the text is the same width as your video.

Hello!

Great question. Some of the BoldGrid Themes have this feature built-in to the footer, but in some of them, such as Evolv, you'll need to use a widget.

Navigate to Customize -> Active Site and scroll all the way down to your footer. Look for the +Widget button, and add a Text Widget. You can paste your copyright mark into that widget.

Google Drive backup issue

I authorize plugin with google drive, create backup, but there is no any file on google drive. I try couple of times and here are results:
1) Folders are created, but files not existing. 
2) Folders are created but lot of folders (see image 1.jpg)

3) Backup file is existing only when scheduled backup is going on, it is created in multiple folders with same name

4) In wordpress boldgrid backup plugin, it is visible only WebServer like backup location, there is no visible Google Drive mark...

.When I upload the google storage file the boldgrid archive is not recognizing its upload on the webserver...Therefore I at a dilemma in restoring my hacked site (google url link not working, file size to big to upload from computer)  HELP

Thanks for the great question, I'm sorry to hear that you've been hacked, but I'm glad to hear that you have a backup to restore!

When you upload the backup file, follow the steps found here to restore a large backup file so that BoldGrid Backup will recognize the uploaded file.

"Hide Partner Attribute" setting does not exist error

Using the Grid One Theme. When I click to Hide Partner Attribute then Publish I get a "Setting does not exist error" and the link stays in the footer. Even when I disable the footer, the Special Thanks link remains on the bottom of the page.

You're correct in your comment, hiding the Partner Attribute is a premium feature.
